More on Six Apart and LiveJournal's Self-Serving Tactics.

Those people who've followed this small community might've remembered me, back in October, quoting an article that mentioned Joi Ito, the Japanese entrepreneur who helped Barak buy up LiveJournal for Six Apart. Well, as always, there's more to him, as oulangi carefully points out in this comment, namely that Joi Ito

  • sits on the board of WITNESS, one of the charities Barak named would benefit in the 36-Hour window of the Permanent Account Sale
  • helped founded and sits on the board of Creative Commons, another one of the charities Barak named would benefit in the 36-Hour window of the Permanent Account Sale
  • has benefitted from court cases involving the EFF, another one of the charities Barak named would benefit in the 36-Hour window of the Permanent Account Sale

RAINN seems to be the only charity that was not personally tied to Joi Ito, (sadly) used to legitimize the sale/pander to peoples' high emotions regarding the strikethroughs of survivor communities.

How sad it is that many people were duped into buying Permanent Accounts when 3/4 of the "charities" were directly tied to the largest investor in LiveJournal. Pathetic and disgusting, Barak, Joichi, Mena/Ben, and the rest of you sitting pretty up there at the controls of LJ.
